Stent didn't work- help :(

Hi, my sister has May-Thurners syndrome, and they've been treating her with medications, put a filter near her heart and gave her a stent and put her on Coumadin. She went back in to get the filter removed, hoping everything was okay- and they checked her again to find that the vein is clogged again and the stent didn't work. They went back in to try and get the blood clot removed and weren't able to take it out. That the vein is too squinny and squished. They say there's no other procedure they can do.and that she has to be on blood thinners for the rest of her life. Is there anything else we can do? Should we take her to another doctor, another hospital? We don't like the idea of blood clots traveling thru her body. Especially if they're big enough to still jam up the veins and the medicine she's on to thin them isn't really helping?

I also have May Thurners and Factor 5 blood disorder which is not a good combo. I ended up in hospital with 9 veins in my left leg clotted from ankle to hip. Had a 6inch stent put in, taking warfarin and off of birth control pills. The real kicker is im a personal trainer and in incredible shape. I had two of the best doc's in Seattle and feel confident all with go well. I get dopplered in another month(4 months since clots) and we will see how it goes. I wear my stocking everyday and am back exercsing at the level i was before. I hope your sis finds a good dr. Never stop getting options, remember they are all opinions and Dr's dont have all the answers, they do the best they can.

A second opinion is never a bad idea. An Interventional Radiologist or Vascular Surgeon at a major university is a good place to start. Make sure to bring all your records and previous imaging studies for your doctors to review. It's really helpful if when they put her stent in if they used intravascular ultrasound. Sometimes they have to stent more rather than less.
