One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Pain Relief-GABA

Well, this is my second DVT. Jeez....d-diner 2972!
I am unable to take Heparin or Coumadin due to anaphylactic type
reactions and most of the pain meds have nerve excitants in them. so when they
wear off, there is even more nerve pain.

I use GABA 750mg and open a few capsules into my mouth (sublingually) to
calm the intense nerve pain associated with the DVT. This was the only
way I could get any sleep or relief.

To dissolve the clot, I take a product that has multiple enzymes including
nattokinase called Virastop by Enzymedica. The product is not only good for
reversing viral infections! My last DVT, with the exception of the ER refusing my
Dr'e request for an US and sending me on a wild goose chase for 30 days,
leaving me with a clot in my leg untreated and three knee aspirations later during
the Christmas holiday, the clot resolved without incidence in less than 2 months,
no valve damage, with only a slight tissue abnormality due to delay in
identification... read more

Stopping warfarin - constant worry

Hi all,

I had a DVT behind my left knee that I became aware of on 10th May
2011. A few days before though I became aware of shortness of breath
when exercising and stopped taking the combined contraceptive pill
straight away as I am a great worrier! It turns out I also had a
pulmonary embolism.

My INR has been tricky to keep in range but having seen the consultant
in August after a heart scan, my warfarin was stopped this last
Wednesday, Sept 28th.

So, day 4 of no warfarin. I find myself constantly preoccupied by
thoughts of clotting again and worse, developing another PE. I am
hyper aware of every pain and feeling in my body. After a month of
being off the warfarin I need to have blood tests to see if I have a
clotting disorder and depending on results may have to be back on
warfarin for life.

I would love to have some reassurance. If you have stopped warfarin
and remained clear of clots and PE I would love to hear from you
however brief the p... read more

DVT and Pregnancy

Has anyone gotten a DVT due to pregnancy? How were you treated? Was it during your pregnancy or after your pregnancy? And how did this affect later pregnancies?

I am 23 years old and developed a DVT in my left groin at about 37 weeks. I went in for an ultrasound due to pain and swelling and they didn't find anything. Four days later, with worsening symptoms, I went in again and had a clot that was almost a foot long. I was in the hospital for 10 days before they induced me. I had a healthy baby girl and then was put on coumadin for 6 months. I still have residual clot that probably won't go away. My leg still swells and my veinsd are quite the sight. My Dr thinks I'll probably have to do blood thinners throughout all future pregnancies.

My husband was in the hosp for 10 days due to this. This makes the 3rd time this has happened but with this episode being the worst yet. They finally put a screen in his groin for it while he was in the hosp. My question is...I know it's going to take time for his body to heal after this, whick dr told him it may not that he may have done too much damage inside with this being the 3rd time. While in the hosp, he started complaining of nausea and even vomitted a few times. Since being home, around 2 months now, he has been complaining of extreme nausea but no vomitting. Has anyone else experience anything like this? Is this normal? We've told his dr and she doesn't seem to be concerned with it. But, I can't stand seeing him so sick. He keeps saying that his insides just don't feel right and I keep asking what he means and he just can't describe it. Someone please help.

Diagnosed in June w/ small clot - Questions

I'm 32 and after a roadtrip across several states over Memorial Weekend I woke the next morning with a cramp in my leg. As it didn't diminish in pain during the day like a Charlie Horse cramp usually does, I managed to get a doctors appointment that same day, June 1st. The ultrasound barely found the clot as it was tiny but hurt huge! It was in my right leg between the ankle and lower calf. The doctor suspected it was my birth control that caused it as I had no history of clots. I'll be getting an IUD eventually, hopefully soon.

I was placed on Lovenox and Warfarin. I did 2 shots a day of Lovenox while they tried to get my blood thinning level to be in a 2.5-3 range. I did about 62 shots before that finally happened. they hade trouble regulating me and I've been taking 15MG daily since about mid-July. I get greens to stay within the target range and am now having my INR tested every 3 weeks.

At the suggestion of my doctor, I've been walking 40 minutes on a treadmill o... read more

INR not therapeutic - how often to check?

Hi! I've learned a lot from this forum - I'm so glad I found it! I have a question for you all: how often should my INR be checked while it's *not* in therapeutic range?

Here's my situation: I'm 27, female, and was dx w/DVT & PE last December - the docs and still trying to figure out if it's from my Crohn's disease or something else (will hopefully have the results of more clotting disorder/lupus tests tomorrow). After 8 days in December of lovenox and warfarin I'm now just on warfarin for the clots (I am taking other meds for the Crohn's). I understand warfarin is a difficult drug to manage, but it's been over 2 months and my INR hasn't been in therapeutic range for two weeks in a row since the end of December. Since January my INR has been down to 1.1, gradually up to 2.5, spiked to 3.6, back down to 1.7... Argh! (I am very careful about keeping my diet consistant and taking the warfarin at the same time each evening.)

Last Monday my INR was 1.8, so my gp increased the warfa... read more

I experienced dizziness and nausea to the extent that I could not walk after taking Pardaxa for 2 days. Went to the VA and the doctor there did not think Pardaxa was a good medication. I have stopped the drug and am feeling some better. Not nausea but still dizziness, but not as bad. Has anyone had this problem. My wife and I also take Nattocanaise and I am back on it. My wife had an ablation but still has some arrhythmia. She does not tolerate the arrhythmia med so is off and doing okay. When we have the attacks. Research cayenne liquid, magnesium,CoQ10 and potassium. Also the trace minerals are great. This is what we do when we get an attach. I am 76 and my wife is 73. She beat reoccurring breast cancer using natural treatments. If she can help feel free to email her at nsearch1@att.net.

Hi Everyone...I'm happy to have found this site. I can't believe it but after a year and a half of recurrent DVTs, warfarin "for life" I finally have an answer. I got my first DVT in March of 2010 for no apparent reason...I was 39 at the time. I was in the hospital for about a week, sent home with Lovenox shots and warfarin, remained on the warfarin for about 4 months. About a month after being off the meds I got a 2nd DVT, repeated the blood screening tests, had a abdominal CT scan and nothing was found. I was told my vein is probably compromised now and so now I need to stay on the med for life. Something just kept telling me there had to be an answer...so after pushing and pushing my doctor she finally referred me to a university hospital near by (UofM) and maybe they could find something. Two visits later and voila...I was just diagnosed with May-Thurner Syndrome. What gets me is what about all the people who don't challenge and don't accept their GP's responses. I coul... read more

I live abroad and was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with a severe DVT in my left leg,
just below my knee. After spending a week in the hospital, I was allowed to go
home. I have been getting my blood tested every day this week trying to find
the right combination to maintain the right level.

I am not sure what to expect coming up in the next 3 months. With the
language barrier, it is difficult to fully understand my doctors.

I haven't had pain since about 5 days, but today the pain is back and I an
freaking out that I did something our that maybe the thrombosis got bigger? A
friend thought maybe since my level has been too low the part 3 days, that this
is the reason for the pain.

Any advice is welcome, I am looking for advice on what to expect from here on

DVT and work

I was diagnosed with a DVT behind my right knee back in January this year. However, my ability to do my job is now declining- I work as a Customer Service Manager and drive approx 50k miles per year, with a round-trip commute to the office of 140 miles. Because my calf and the back of my leg are now painful if I sit too long, I am no longer able to sit in the car for more than 45 minutes without having to stop and walk around for 10 minutes.
So, I was wondering if any of you have approached your employers to ask for flexible working? The initial response from my HR dept. was not too positive, so I will refrain from taking this further until I have looked at the options open to me.I suppose my fear is that I will lose my job, but realistically my time is now limited beacuse I cannot now sit still for too long.
Is there any financial assistance I can obtain from the state? Is DVT classed as a disability? I would appreciate your advice and comments please.
Many thanks.

Hi all,

Just a quick question.....

How would I get on Pradaxa?

I am currently on warfarin, i have recently just started another 6
month course as i developed another DVT in each leg. I asked about
about the new drug Pradaxa and wondered if i could take that instead
of the warfarin, but the doc at the hospital around and said that they
wasn't licensed to give it out....

Is there any way I could get still hold of it?

Any replies would be much appreciated :)
