I'm 61, have AFib and have been on Coumadin for 5 years. I just took first
Pradaxa today. I stopped Coumadin 4 days ago. When I went off the Coumadin I
stopped having that tired feeling. It feels good. I pray Pradaxa is a good
replacement.

I'll report in again after taking the new med a little longer.
Thanks!

On pradaxa now for a month.
Have blood in urine and severe
groin pain. PCP says not from
this drug. Urologist feels a stone
possible however it is still in kidney.
Have a history of stones.
Also recently lost a lot of weight
because of being on Topamax.
Taking many vicodans.
I'm 73 with a fib.
Is the blood the pradaxa?

I have Afib and have been on Coumadin for 9 yrs. now - I am 66 yrs. old and I have one of the self test monitors to check my INR which I just got 4 months ago and it is great..no more trips once a month to the lab. My INR ratio is pretty steady between 2 and 3 but I am careful with the green veggies etc. When I went in for a checkup a month ago My Doc was all excited about Pradaxa and I had been following it's approval and roll out ..I had set a Google alert and received news daily on it and the Doc was pushing it and I took a pass on the free samples and prescription..I told the Doc I wanted to wait at least a year to be sure there were no terrible side affects that had not been seen to date in a large sample than the Phase III tests..that led the FDA to approve it. I sure hope all goes well so I won't have to watch my diet anymore or take blood samples anymore..I just want to be sure first. I* wish only the best results for you brave ones out there ..please keep us all informed..Thanks !

Just stopped taking pradaxa, diltiazem and simvastatin because of sudden development of severe hemorrhoids. 24 hours later swelling, red, irritated hemorrhoids disappeared and lower colon returned to normal.

Started medications again and the painful, irritation and sweeling returned almost immediately.

Stopped medications again.

Do not know if single medication is causing the problem or the combination of medications are causing the problem.

Also, read today that simvastatin should not be taken by people with diabetes. This was news to me.

Do not want hemorrhoid surgery.

There must be another blood thinner beside coumadin. For those who do not know, coumadin is d-con rat poison.

Eva,

Coumadin never poisioned rats, when ingesting it caused internal bleeding of rats. This is why our INR are managed to ensure we stay within the target INR range.

Here is some information regarding Pradaxa pertaining to bleeding from one of the leading blood clot researchers in the U.S.:

Dr recommends I go on pradaxa, but I'm a little wary. What is the story about once you open the bottle, you must use within 30 days? Is it really that critical; if it lasts 30 days won't it last a little longer ? Thanks for any comments.

Been on Pradaxa for 3 months for DVTs and Factor V Leiden since I couldn't stay therapuetic on Coumadin. I had horrible heartburn the first month so my Dr recommended Prilosec and it worked in 2 weeks time. I also had the black tarry stools and took probiotic pills which I think helped as well. Been feeling much better the last couple months and love eating my veggies and drinking green tea again. My Dr also said if you have a bleeding emergency or need emergency surgery of some sort they have ways to stabilize you in the hospital even without an antidote.

I have Von Willebrands disease and a doctor has suggested taking Paradaxa to prevent possibility of blood clots since I also have Atrial Fibrillation occasionally (6 episodes in 3 years). I read that there is no reversal agent as with Coumadin which is rather scary in case of severe bleeding plus the Von Willebrands. Thanks

my mother started pradaxa a month ago and was just hospitalized for a gastrointestinal bleed. supposedly you don't need blood tests like you do for coumadin . obviously you do

One pill of Pradaxa and I was in the emergency room 45 minutes later with a severe
allergic reaction. One week later and a regimen of Prednisone I am finally beginning
to feel like myself.

Hey. I've been on pradaxa for about 2 months. Before I was having to take
fragmin a shot in my stomach for 3 years and I hated it! I've have been on birth
controrol since I was 15 years old since I had terrible periods. But anyways I'm
now on 26 meds because I've had 3 strokes. The first one I was 22, the second I
was 23 and the last 24. They say it was because of the birth control called yas
that I'd been on for years. I don't really think it's makin me have side effects
maybe weight gain a lil bit. But the first month when I took two pills I got so sick
so I only started with one pill. But my dr said if I only took one pill then I wasn't
protected agaigt any strokes. So the second month I'm doing better. I've tried
kumumaden and it didn't work on me it always sent me to hospital rite to the er.

Had a PE. Was on Coumadin/warfarin for 6 months. Lost a lot of hair. Got off of it and hair grew back within one month. Then had clot in leg 4 months later. Have been on Coumadin ever since. Experienced a bunch of hair loss. Got an Pradaxa and continued to have hair loss for some reason. My Vascular doc was surprised. Been on Coumadin and am about to give Pradaxa another chance as hair loss has diminshed.

I have been on pradaxa for a few months. I have Atrial Fib also. I like it better than coumadin. I was having a lot of hair loss on coumadin and it slowed down when I first started taking pradaxa but I am having hair loss again. I still prefer it to coumadin, I take 150mg twice daily. I am wondering if hair loss is just a common side effect in blood thinners for some people like myself. Prehaps because it affects Vitamin K.

my husband was changed to pradaxa from coumadin. after three weeks he was so weak he could hardly walk. his hymoglobin dropped to 6.8 and he was hospitalized for 9 days from bleeding. he will never take this drug again and i do not reccomend it to anyone. we are waiting to see what we can do now. he is not on any blood thinner and it is scarry because of blood clotting as he has Atrial Fib. evelyn crews

I just start on this drug about 3 weeks ago. I had been on Warfarin Since August after having one episode of A-Fib. I was unable to maintain a regular INR reading. So Dr. said try Pradaxa. For about a week I have been suffering from the worst Heart burn I have ever had. Constant pain in the chest. Can hardly swallow. Called the Dr. Today. told him I want "Off" - he said I can't be switching all the time.Try prilosec or something. I am not happy with his response. Does anyone know what my INR would be if I took NO medication? I don't think so.

My Dad was put on Pradaxa last week after having what they think was a v-fib arrest and passing out. (He is 81 years old and has had a-fib for a number of years.) First they did a cardioversion which was successful, kept him in the hospital for another day and sent him home on Pradaxa. Within 1 day of being home (after feeling pretty good the first day) he developed extreme weakness and blood in his stool. At this time he is in a hospital ICU bed awaiting a colonoscopy and an upper endoscopy to see if they can find the source of bleeding or if the Pradaxa was the culprit. Just giving you the facts, not blaming the drug yet but that was the first thought the nurse in the ER had when examining him. His hemoglobin went from 10 to 6 in a matter of a day or 2! He was on Coumadin in the past without side effects that I know of.
