One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

I need help on what to do, could someone please tell me can i take action agaisnt my doctor or even simpler, who's responsibility is it to let me know about the results? Do I call them or let them call me?

I am on warfrin for the rest of my life for DVT. I recently was in the hospital for internal bleading. I believe the reason I suffered interanl bleeding was becuase my GP does not check up on my bi-weekly test that I was doing prior (without any instruction from her or not). It took my GP 3 weeks for them to call me back and by that time i was already in the hospital for internal bleeding. the anticoagulation center at the hospital had me going once a week to get my labs done. I have continued with this habbit but it has been 3 weeks since they discarged me to the care of my GP and i have yet to know what my levels are. I have called them multipul times each week and no call back.
Please help me!
I have searched the web on trying to find who is liable here but nothing is ap... read more

3 weeks of pain

Hello all. I have had 3 weeks of pain in my calf muscle. My symptoms are listed below:
1. Calf pain that comes and goes. It is not constant.
2. The pain moves from my calf muscle to behind my knee.
3. There is no swelling or discoloration and my calf does not feel warm. The calf is not tender to the touch.
4. My foot is tingling. Not numb, just tingles.
5. I have more pain when sitting still than when I walk around.

I have had a D-Dimer test come back negative and I also had a ultrasound come back negative.
Does anyone have any experience with a ultrasound and D-Dimer test coming back negative and still ending up with a blood clot?
My dr does not want to order another ultrasound. My dr wants me to go to a ortho dr.

I appreciate any comments and or advice you can give.

Hope this finds everyone well. I had an asymptomatic (no surgery, no
broken bone, etc...) DVT and PE in 2011. Prior to this I'd never had
any blood clotting issues and I was 40 at the time of the first
incident. Given the PE I was on coumadin until 2013 when I had a
kidney bleed (no stone, I had a blood clot in my ureter after being
scoped). Due to this they took me off coumadin. In April 2014 we
took a road trip to Utah (I live in Calif so it was an 8+ hour drive
but we stopped every few hours and walked around) and took Lovenox as
suggested by my hematologist, when I arrived there I could tell I had
a blood clot in my leg (unfortunately I can feel them now which
sucks). The first ultrasound was negative and they gave me the calf
sprain story (I'm sure you've all heard it...) but the second found
the clot two days later when I insisted on a re-test. They have now
put on Xarelto which is fine and is much better than taking coumadin
as there aren't t... read more

Blood clot?!!

So 4 weeks ago I had an ankle operation. I was put in a cast and in my 4th week.

Since then I have calf pain on an off.
I've had an ultrasound 2 weeks ago to check for a blood clot nothing was found.

Since then I still have calf pain in one spot. It comes and goes. Feels like it burns
sometimes (not everyday time). I have the pain everyday but coming and going.
It's on the out side of my calf.
Today I had my cast changed and my calf looked ok before they put a new one on.
It was soft according the plaster lady and not a hard calf.
Would you see or feel changes if I had a blood clot?

Could I have a blood clot???
Or think just calf pain from muscle wastage or even nerve problem from my
back?! I have no other symptoms.

If you could please help me put my mind at rest or advice...

A question about DVT

Hello, I need some advice as to not knowing if I may be experiencing DVT in my leg. Almost a year ago, I decided at 55 years old to take up jogging. After about 2 weeks into the program, I started experiencing pain and pressure behind the knee. It also was slightly swollen. I decided to quit the jogging to give it a rest, and that seemed to help for a while, but anytime from then on that I did any excessive walking or standing, the pain and swelling would come back. I went to see my primary doctor and she said it may be a baker's cyst and just to rest it. Well months later..no good! I went to see an orthopedic dr. He did an MRI of the knee. No tears and he just doesn't have an answer..seems to be guessing at what it good be. There is no blueness, but some redness on the inside of the knee. I have also started having severe leg cramps at night in the calf. My question here is...can this go on this long without getting worse? Could this be the beginning of a DVT? Anyone else experienc... read more

Terminology and functional life with DVT

Okay, as a "newbie," I am truly grateful to have found this forum (It took about 3 days of searching online before this popped up in my search!).

Anyway, would you mind telling me the terms I need to really know (so I can have educated discussions with my doctor and not leave appointments feeling frustrated)?

Also, I am struggling with my daily life. My PCP refused to script me a wheelchair ("You don't need one! WALK!"). As a result, I walk around the United Center in Chicago, I walk around Chicago, I walk around the mall, I walk around my house. I walk everywere. My surgeon told me to become a mall walker!

Ok, so I walk and my leg becomes numb. It becomes sore. It becomes MASSIVE and swollen. I am in misery. After yesterday (walking around the mall), my leg told me it had had enough and plumped itself to a lovely size. I even developed a "cankle."

I sleep each night with my foot elevated, so last night was no different. I woke up, looked at my leg, and it ... read more

Sudden Pain

I was diagnosed in the beginning of January with a DVT in my left arm.
I have no clotting disorder, do not smoke, have not been on birth
control, etc. so the doctors have no idea why I have this. I have been
on warfarin and things have been slowly improving.

In January, the vein was fully occulated. On April 14th, it was down
to 50%, so there has been improvement; slowly but surely. My pain and
swelling have decreased, as well. That is until this week. I started
to have symptoms in my arm again so I was told I should get an
ultrasound to make sure the clot hadn't moved or gotten any bigger.
According to the radiologist, it is the same. Now this weekend, I have
had so much pain, numbness, and discomfort that I can hardly function.
I this normal? Have I over-worked my arm? Is this part of the process?

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated. I am not sure why I
would have these bouts of feeling almost symptom free and then have
days where it all ... read more

Risk of bleeding...

Here's another set of interesting links. Hopefully this will help
people feel better about, and understand better their individual risk
of bleeding on anticoagulants. As with all of this, ask your doctor to
help explain this to you.

Your individual risk of bleeding will vary with what specific drug(s)
you are on, your health, age, sex and lifestyle.... some of which is
under your control, and some not.

New calf pain while on coumadin

Hi, I am just wondering about experiences where people have had a DVT while on Coumadin. I've been on coumadin now for 4 months (inr between 1.4 and 1.9 despite constant increases and taking it regularly). I'm active, otherwise healthy 37 yo, +FVLeiden (hetero); first DVT was post-surgical.

Just this morning, I developed a new pain in my left calf, where the extensive DVT was, and it now feels like I have a clot again. I'm feeling frustrated and scared, will call my doctor in the morning. I thought the pain would go away during the day but it feels just like the clot did when it first started! I wonder what could be causing such a sharp recurrence of pain where I have had no pain for a few months now. I wonder if PTS would create such a localized pain, how common it is to form another clot while on the coumadin, etc. Just curious about other's experiences.

DVT and flying

I wanted to share my experience. I am a 41 year old female, I flew long distance
last September 2013 from London to Australia and when I arrived home I started
to experience mild calf pain. I slept on and off the whole way home on the plane
and was therefore immobile for many hours at a time. In addition, I didn't do any
stretching exercises, nor did I drink much as I like to avoid getting up and down
to use the restrooms on the plane. Several days after I got home the pain in my
calf was so severe it was keeping me up at night. I assumed it was just a pulled
muscle. The first doctor that I saw sent me on my way with nothing more than
prescription anti inflammatories and told me that as I am not overweight, nor do I
smoke or take contraceptive pills that I am not a candidate for a DVT. The second
doctor that I saw the following day sent me for an urgent leg ultrasound that
showed significant clotting in the left calf. I was immediately fitted with
