One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Does anybody know if a clot can get through the IVC filter? My husband has DVT and has also had a PE. His left leg is swollen, red and hot. He doesn' want to go to the Dr because he knows the outcome, a hospital stay. He has been hospitalized twice for blood clots, he is on warfarin and has an IVC filter, what else can be done?

I'm what you call a hypochondriac, and my mind will latch onto
something new every few weeks. Now, it's a good ol' DVT. I've been
feeling pain in my upper inner left thigh, and it comes and goes, and
has been for a week, maybe two now. The pain is not severe, it seems
more like just a dull pain, that sometimes goes to my lower part of my
thigh, but usually stays higher, and is typically not as bad when I
walk around. I don't feel any weakness or tingling in my leg, albeit
very short bursts of it, when I'm the most nervous over it. Also had a
a bigger cramp that lasted down the front left side of my shin, which
was also apparent when I woke up the next day. These come and go,
usually last in spurts from anywhere from 10 minutes, to an hour or
two.

I'm male, 18 years old, 135 Pounds, at 5'10. Though, I'm very
inactive, and will sit in one spot for long periods of time. In fact,
I do it pretty much every day, and have for a few years now. There are

Tendon / Back pain

I had a clot in my lung a few months ago. I'm 34. I have two
mutations in my blood that increase my chances for clotting 20 fold,
so as a result i'll be on 12-15mg per day of Warfarin for life. Since
I've been taking the Warfarin I've had what seems to be tendinitis.
It started in my left ankle then stopped. Suddenly the tendon in my
left thumb became really sore for about a week and a half, but I had
done nothing to injure it. When that subsided I had some pretty heavy
neck pain. This week my right forearm is very very sore on top where
my tendons are, and again, I haven't done anything that would cause
this. I have never had any problems with pain or tendinitis in my
life, all this started after my clot. So far twice I've had a burning
sensation when I urinate despite that all I drink is water. My Doctor
cant really prescribe any anti-inflammatory drugs because of the
warfarin. He has tried two types of muscle relaxers but those have
had no e... read more

Ending Coumadin Therapy

Hello - just curious - how does a GP know when to stop coumadin therapy?

I was told by ER doc's that I'd be on coumadin from 6 - 12 months, more likely 12 months due to the size of my DVT (knee to groin) and the fact it resulted in multiple PE's in both lungs.

Family GP says 3 months (ish) - and says that we will know when to stop b/c I will just feel better. What does this mean? Why such a difference in time line?

It's been 9 weeks so far (only about 3 of which were actually FINALLY in the therapeutic range). My leg still turns blueish after about 2 minutes of standing and after about 10 minutes if I'm moving around/walking.

Does this just go away? Can I request some sort of a scan to make double-sure?

How soon do you go to doctor

This is the third day that I have felt like I have a bruise on my
inner left calf. It hurts to touch and also when I walk a certain
way. Tonight I just noticed a little redness but not a bruise. I am
out of town for work and was wondering how soon I should see a doctor
before this gets out of hand. The pain has gotten worse but not
entirely unbearable. I was thinking I should go to a doctor in the
town I am in. I do smoke and I take birth control as well. Can
someone let me know how long it would take to travel to lungs, heart,
etc. I would like to wait until I return home to see my regular GP
but that will not be for another week. Thanks.

I survived a s-PE on May 24, 2012. I am an EMT and I did not have the classical
symptoms of a PE with DVT. The actual day the PE happen was on May 21 2012. I
was out getting ready to go for a run, I started doing my warm up and had a
cramp in my left calf, I stopped and stretched my calf, lost my breath almost
instantly, and looked at my heart rate monitor I use when running ad it jump up
from 90 to 136. I walked 1.5 miles and felt like I ran a marathon (the only classic
symptoms). I had no cheats pain, no calf pain (just felt like a tight calf muscle like
runners get). I was not diaphoretic (sweeting) or cyanotic (turing blue), my calf
did not swell, turn red, or had sever pain. I did not have any trauma, and did not
live a sanitary life style

I called my doctors office and made an appointment with them because I thought
it would be quicker than the going to the ER (almost a deadly mistake). They ran
labs, an EKG 12 lead, and did X-rays. A small spot sho... read more

I've the following symptoms all of which are not constant in my left leg

Prickly feeling on surface
Dull ache in calf but not painful
No swelling what so ever
Kinda of slight burning in the back of my thigh
No discolouration both legs look the same
When I sit I somtimes get the beginning of pins and neadles
No pain if I put pressure on any point of my leg
Everyhing feels surface related and not inside my leg
I get relief if I walk. Of which I can with ease
When I sit I do get tingling feeling

DVT - upper arm

Has anyone else had a DVT in the arm? I'm a 28-year-old female with no
risk factors (no birth control, no smoking, no family history) and
developed a DVT in my upper arm last week, in addition to a PE. I was
in the hospital for a day and am now home on warafin and Lovenox, just
waiting for my INR to become stable. So glad to be feeling completely
fine now!

I have to wait 3-4 months to do any testing for clotting disorders,
but I did have a healthy pregnancy and C-section with no clots, just
two years ago.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar...Thanks!

Long Term Clexane Usage

Hi all, Recently I was told to stop taking Warafin and Xarelto, due to severe
allergic responses to both medicines. i was put on Clexane injections twice daily
for a DVT in my right leg. At this stage I will be on Clexane for three months,
however if my clot does not disperse, or if another appears I fear I may be on
Clexane for life.

Is anybody else on long term Clexane injections? Are there dangers to long term
useage. I am aware of the risk of Anemia. Any advice from long term users would
be appreciated.

Swollen leg, how long till it reduces in size

The picture at the top of this forum with the swollen red leg is a carbon copy of what my leg looked like after my groin thrombosis following a hip replacement. Its been almost two years since the surgery, I've been wearing a medical sock, firs to the hip, then to the knee for almost two years now. The swelling has gone down but my leg is still larger than my other leg. I know the leg may never go back to its original size. My question is, after two years will it reduce any more. I'm quite content with the way things are (I'm still on the planet) and am wondering if its worth still continuing to wear the medical sock; to me it looks like the leg is as good as its going to get.

does d dimer keep rising if you have a clot?

First off I'm really sorry if I come across as insensitive or a
hypochondriac as I know many people here have had very serious & scary
dvt/pe events so forgive me if I'm coming across as trivial or
annoying to you.

But last month I was having unreal chest pains when breathing in and
they did a d dimer. Normal is like 0-240 but mine was 267. Very mildy
elevated but they kindly did a radioactive scan just in case and quick
ultrasound on the left thigh. Thankfully they didn't find anything.

Well about 2 weeks after that I started getting this stabbing,
throbbing, shooting etc in my left calf.
It moved up to my groin 3 days ago so I went back to a&e last night on
good advice of the people on here and they did another d dimer. Well
this time it was something like 242.

Still slightly elevated but lower than last week.

Anyway does this rule out the possibility of a clot?
Because I've had these pains for like 2 weeks and surely the d dimer
would be raised a... read more

Pain in thigh, what could this be? Could it be DVT?
Hello,

So two weeks ago I was flying a plane (I'm a pilot) for a while- I flew a 3 hour flight, a 4
hour, then the next day another 3 hour flight and then another 4 hour flight. I fly a small
airplane- so it's pretty cramped in the cockpit. When I got home I noticed a burning pain
behind my right knee- the kind you feel when you reach down to your toes.

I was worried right away about DVT and went to the ER where they did an ultrasound
that came back negative for clots. I then went and had another ultrasound done by a
vascular doctor that was negative also.

My right calf was slightly bigger than my left calf, and I have been feeling some sharp
pains in it occasionally. I went and saw a vascular surgeon who had another ultrasound
done on it that came back negative for DVT, but they found a small clot in a superficial
vein. So I was right about a clot, but it isn't anything threatening. So I've had 3

Xarelto dosage. Please explain

On May 22nd I was diagnosed with a thrombosis in my arm. This arm is currently
broken a d the thrombosis was where the break is. But in the past in 1997, I had a
malignant sarcoma in this arm, with radiation, after which I had occasional bouts
of lymphodema with cellulitis.
Anyhow, I was put on the standard dose of Xarelto for DVT. This being 2 times
15mg a day for 21 days, then 1 times 20 mg a day for 9 weeks. After a week and a
half of the 15 mg x 2, I started to feel weak and headachy, this feeling got worse
by the day, accompanied by what seemed like a never ending heaviest period
ever.... I felt like life was being squeezed out of me.
My regular family Dr, took a blood test for my hemoglobin level,, then promptly
took me off the 2 x 15mg, and told me to start with the 1 x 20mg. I cut the pill in
half, and take 10mg in the morning and 10mg at night.
I was feeling sick after 1 dose of 15mg before, so was afraid of taking 20mg all at
once.
Well as soon as... read more
