One new option for people who have been diagnosed with a blood clot is Thrombolysis which uses medicines and devices to remove the blood clot. While not risk free, and not offered universally, the following doctors and institutions do offer this. If you think you may be interested, it is important to act quickly. Blood clots harden within the first several weeks, making it much more difficult to remove the clot. This procedure has risks and you should discuss with your doctors the tradeoffs for your particular situation.

Hi all.
My first blood clot was at age 15, it was by chance it was diagnosed. After having
a massive pulmonary embolism and near death the doctors advise an IVC filter
would be best to ensure no further clots breaking off going to my heart and
lungs. My condition is due to an anti thrombin 3 deficiency, my liver doesn't
produce enough of a thinning agent. I have had numerous clots while on high
doses of warfarin and a goal INR of 4.0. After research into what could be done to
help, they have found my IVC filter once a life saver has now proven to make my
condition worse. The removal of the filter is out of the question now as clots have
formed around it. A liver transplant was looked into but found to much of a risk
factor. The purpose of all my research is that I want to carry a child, I would of
course have my eggs tested for the condition. Has anyone experienced a
pregnant with blood clots? I am soon to move country to seek more advise.

Had second major DVT this January. 1st one was a year or two ago. Doc says I will need to stay on Coumadin indefinitely. I am an active on the go person. I have constant swelling in right leg and am on me feet most of the day. In the past 2 weeks I have been given a knee hi compression stocking 20/30, but I now get edema above the band on the stocking. Second DVT was ankle to Groin. Has anyone been able to come off blood thinners and have swelling subside and get back to easier routien. Did not want to say normal because with DVT there is no normal. I am careful about not getting cut but I get some really severe looking bruising. INR is 2.4 to 2.8 on regular checks every 3 to 4 weeks. Doc says because of DVT I have developed Venious insufficency.(Shitty return circulation I guess) I have dark skin areas on lower leg shin mostly. Anyone have ideas how i can brighten or improve my outlook on this mess.

I've been on Warfarin for 4 1/2 months now and have noticed that the veins in my arms are standing out more and are developing little balls or knobs (small pea size) every inch or so in places. Anyone else experience this?

I am suffering through my first head cold since starting Coumadin 11 months
ago. I am taking some Tylenol but that's about it. Pharmacist said I could take
claritin (the one w/o a decongestant) but that is pretty useless .
I know there HAS to be a way to handle a run of the mill (but debilitating) head
cold while on Coumadin. It is very difficult to find info online basically it says 'be
careful, dont take anything". Any lifers have some ideas? What has worked for
you? Any changes in INR?
When I am off the warfarin, I will NEVER take OTC drugs for granted again ;)

Deep Blood clot in my thigh and superfical clot also in thigh. Family Dr. wanted me to come off warfarin after 3 months so I went to a vascular surgeon to get a second opinion and he said I should stay on it for a total of six months. After six months I requested a ultrasound and found out the clot is not dissolving. He told me 6 more months and then another ultrasound. Then I will come off warfarin for a month to see if the clot grows. If it doesn't grow I can come off warfarin if it starts to grow again I will have to be on warfarin for live. Anybody else have this happen to them?
Seems like family Dr.'s don't know how to handle blood clots.

2 months after DVT diagnosis...

I have no prior history of DVTS or blood issues. On 4/19/2010 I was diagnosed with a DVT in my right femoral vein extending down to below my knee. A couple weeks ago, I was almost back to normal and went on a pain free (yay!) 2 mile walk. As of last week, my leg pain is slowly coming back, and my leg is even swelling a little. I had a ultrasound today and the tech indicated that there has been no change to the clot and it still remains.

I have had a pretty regular INR of about 2.9. Still taking coumadin, I was only on the Arixtra for a few days back in April.

I have a couple questions...

1. Why would the pain come back after seeming to go away previously?
2. Besides the Coumadin, does anyone recommend another treatment?
3. Being 2 months on the Coumadin, am I still at risk for PE?
4. Should I continue with my regular activity, or should I be taking it easy?
5. Does anyone suggest Catheter-directed thrombolysis? What are the risks of doing it?

Thanks!
jen

Power port for medications

Has anyone else had to get a port (bard's power port in my case) so that blood
draws, ivs and ct scans can be done? I was hospitalized again over the last week
for yet another DVT in my subclavian and PE. After 8 horrifying hours and 7
people (4 iv team members, with an ultrasound machine and 1 doctor among
them) I still had no IV access to deliver the heparin I so badly needed because my
upper extremity veins are so bad from the clotting and scar tissue. At this point I
was in so much pain and becoming unable to breathe they decided I needed a
port so that access would be available. My husband and I discussed it and
decided at the time it seemed the only option. My concern is two fold. One is I
know that port are an added risk for clotting, which I don't need. So how often do
you have it flushed with heparin? And have you had any further problems from
having the port in? And two. I have read horror stories about the Bard power port.

Hi all,
first of all, sorry for my English, I'm Italian so I may make some (a lot) errors!

On July I was taken to the hospital because of DVT on my left thigh.
I'm only 27 years old, so I've done some examinations and I've discovered that I suffer of a form of vena cava agenesis.
I've been performing weight training for 10 years and I've been taking supplements (whey proteins) every day since 1 year.
I would like to know if bodybuilding and a protein-rich diet could improve the chance of suffering of DVT.
I've searched a lot on the web, but I found no article that prooved the relationship between bodybuilding/proteins and DVT.
Could anyone help me?

I've stopped going to the gym since July, but now some doctors told me that I could start excercising again, beacuse the agenesis makes me "immune" to EP.
On the contrary, Some other doctors forbade me to exercise until the end of the therapy (6 months or more).
Who should I trust?
After 3 months I still have chances of ... read more

My left calf (of my previous DVT leg) has been sort of painlessly spasming
intermittently for half the day. Any thoughts?? I'm sorta broke (and finally paying down
my medical bills) and don't want to go to the hospital un-necessarily.

Thoughts?

Blood clot in left calf (DVT)

So I've been hospitalized because I have DVT in my left calf. My doctor says it was
from my birth control. I was on Trinessa and I also was on a 6 hour road trip to SC.
Which I have made several stops along the way.
I was hospitalized this July 11th-July 17th. I started on Lovenox and 2mg of Warfarin.
Then I was out of the hospital (my INR was 2.0) and had to be on the Lovenox for a
week and on 3mg of Warfarin. A week after that it was at 5mg. Then this past Wed., I
had to start taking 7.5mg because I was on Wellbutrian XL (anti-anxiety med) and
that made my INR go to 1.7.
Now just today my doctor called and said I have to be on 8mg. She didn't say what my
INR was. I've stopped taking the Wellbutrain XL because it dropped my INR. It's just
very scary for me now because I don't want to have internal bleeding if I have to keep
taking a higher dose. Xanax doesn't seem to alter the INR. So I'm gonna use that for
my anxiety. I just want to go back to 5mg again soon.... read more

Im now back on Warfarin, after a 5 year break, after my calf pain has been diagnosed as another clot.
Luckily I kept a record of my dosage level, yellow book, and have gone back onto my old dosage and have settled to a INR of 2.4.
Has there been any changes to the treatment since I was last on it?

Sirco juice with Fruitflow

This brand of fruit juice which contains fruitflow - a tomatoe extraction - apparently acts to prevent blood platelet aggregation and therefore has won health endorsements for helping blood circulation and in the prevention of blood clotting . Fruitflow is tasteless and the juice is not tomatoe or tomatoe tasting by the way . Does anyone else have experience drinking it ? It is on sale in the UK - Amazon have it and there is plenty to google online about it .
I can see it may be a preventative for people with no history of clotting but I am hoping it is safe for those like me who have clotting and take warfarin . It does warn on the product to seek medical advise if you take anticoagulants . I have read that it does not change your INR and acts on platelet aggregation not clotting factor which if true is hopefully ok . I'm hoping they are just covering themselves - It does not say don't drink if you take anticoagulants without medical advise or even Seek medical advise - just 'It ... read more

Pregnancy and Clexane

Hi, Had a DVT in 2009, Recently found out that it is still laying dormant in the
same place and didn't completely dissolve. My fiancÚ and I are trying to start a
family and I've got multiple opinions from doctors on pregnancy and the blood
clot. One says I'll have to be on Clexane injections throughout the whole
pregnancy, One says only in the last few trimesters and another is saying one
injection every once a week. Not too sure on what the actual answer is or if the
baby will be effected by the injections or warfarin (if used or needed).
If anybody has any information or previous experience with such topic. I'd love to
hear back.
